Just a thought but those of you thinking about Arabs in a ww1 game might want to have a look at red actions , it playes at a level that might fit your ideas

I've played these rules and they are great fun, but they are very specific to the RCW, (e.g commissars being executed for failures) so I'm not sure they would transfer well to the Arab Revolt. Perfect Captain have a lot of home brewed rules for a wide variety of historical periods and are worth checking out. This is a link to a battle report of a game I played using Red Actions several years ago.

by the way when i mentioned red actions i was talking about the game engine not the specifics of the rules
